[@OKFNau] Canberra Temperature Data, November 2013

Hi Dale

Just to amplify Alex's and Helen's comments

- the wunderground contributors would be a pool of data sources who probably
have the data at higher resolution than is published on the website. There's
a question of how far back they personally archive (many of the personal
weather stations keep minute-level data for about 2 months). However,
quality control is an issue, you need to find somebody who's fairly formal
about external temperature measurements. They are very easy to contaminate
with bad readings, as I'm finding with my own weather station. I can though
give you my house's internal temperatures at 1 minute intervals for 5 of the
last 6 years if you like J

- the Unis might be an interesting source. I'd suggest looking for places
that have temperature issues, such as the observatory and the gravity wave
lab at ANU (College of Science). Possibly also the greenhouse folks in RSBS,
not sure which College that is in now. And, left field idea, the
supercomputing folks at NCI may have it as part of their building management
system.

- Does anybody know if the BoM sells data collected at 1-minute intervals? I
know they collect it, but not sure if they archive it.

- The purist in me would ask 'where in Canberra', as there is a lot of
variation across the city on any given day.

Cheers,

Markus

I think the data services option Alex suggested is the quick and easy way to
get the data if you're willing to pay. I've had a look around for
alternatives for you, but I really don't think there are any public sources
reporting this level of detail.

If you don't want to pay, there's a off-chance local universities in NSW and
the ACT might already have the data and be willing to help if you can get
hold of the right person. I'd suggest asking Environmental Science
departments or perhaps Social Sciences departments working on climate change
issues to see what they have. Going through the admin email address may not
be very constructive; maybe email a PhD student doing work in the field, if
you can find one? (For the time invested with no guarantee of success, it
may well be easier just to pay up though!)

I have used this data in the past but I had to pay to access it ($94

You can collect the half hourly public readings from BOM
http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN60903/IDN60903.94926.shtml if you
know before hand you'll need the data. Or Weather Underground have
historical crowd sourced half hourly data

l?format=1
Easier than setting up your own weather station.
