[@OKau] update on the MOOC

Hi all

Just thought I'd give an update on the open data MOOC.

I have nearly 40 people signed on to it and people have begun to do the challenges. I think they were doing them before but they weren't showing up publicly (to course participants) as they should. I find the system a tad buggy but I suppose that is true of any system.

I think it will be a good place to build a community where people can put out their ideas around what open data can be used for (the main aim). It is primarily geared to get people to think about what open data can be used for that can be discussed with others for sharing & feedback- as opposed to giving people cut and dried tasks that are scored.

While the course is not aimed at geeks (who I assume can find and use data.gov.au without assistance), it could be useful preparation for GovHack because it offers insights into what people want done with open data and also gives a basic overview of open data basics- where to find it, how it is measured and evaluated and who is using it/for what.

If you're interested you can check the course out at https://www.openlearning.com/courses/opendata/Schedule however I think you need to register an account with openlearning.com for access.
