[okfn-discuss] Live Webcast - Personal Democracy Forum 2014 - Save the Internet, The Internet Saves

Yes, very independent. Is Facebook more evil than Twitter in your view??

But here is my take - after 20 years of promoting and using open
source to feed my Democracies Online Newswire - http://dowire.org -
http://e-democracy.org/groupserver - IF we want to connect to the next
generation of emerging wired elected officials we must reach them
where they are online.

In MN we have 30 something new elected officials essentially
"friending" their way to office.

They are interacting almost EVERYDAY via their personal profiles with
their constituents/supporters. While I have problems with them doing
this exclusively with just "friends," these are the low hanging fruit
for the next generation of political support for open government.

Most of these Facebook-native politicians are doing open government,
but not yet tied politically to a movement to make government more
institutionally open. Creating a Facebook Group that is just "one
click" to join is about the only thing I'll get these folks to sign-up
for from my recent experience.

Howard - the webcast is free. (But they don't promote until the day of
the event and they put speech online on-demand.)

Cheers,
Steven Clift

P.S.S. When I launched this thing - it is clear that newer countries
online are far more connected via Facebook groups on open data/smart
city/open gov issues. From:
