Membership Management would require becoming a Member. Can this be tied
into a Shopping Cart (for "buying" and creating the membership -- and
implement a package type for the membership and associated pricing and
schedule)?

Eg:

Space 1:
Sign up can be Magento Community Edition:

This site has the checkout and purchase of the membership. memberships are
recurring monthly subscriptions.

This site has the account management.

Terms:
Member - a user (username, password, profile)
Package - a package type (price, features of package [access to what
content])

Space 2:
Login area can be Drupal:

This site has the content.

Space 3:
Landing Page - Sign up (Go to Magento Site and Checkout) or Go to Drupal
Site and Login

-----------

You can use an API to hook the accounts in magento to the accounts in
drupal and vice-versa.

Yes?
