[okfn-discuss] Ideas for eGovernment initiatives?

Hi Niels, all,

I think it is a great idea to think broader about implications of "open"
and have a strategy that caters for impact rather than the fact that data
(or sth else) is opened. Let me offer two ideas to think about:

(1) I ran interviews with a few CIOs/CTOs and local Code for America
community members in Boston, Philadelphia, Mexico City recently (case
studies to be published in 2014, I hope). All of these cities have their
own flavor of an "innovation/civic tech lab" (eg http://labplc.mx/
andhttp://www.newurbanmechanics.org/ ) . This can be a very powerful
approach to help reshape governments and implement some of the things you
mentioned. Here is an example on national level,
http://www.whitehouse.gov/innovationfellows.

I think we need to talk less about new technology and more about new
interactions between governments and citizens through new technology...

(2) To your other point "related to open
government/data/access/education/transport/aid, open-whatever," ...
I have found that it is easier to explain to politicians (and other
decision makers) an overarching concept using familiar terms than each
openX approach individually. I am talking about "digital sustinability" and
explain how digital goods (software, data, content, etc.) can be treated
more sustainably and what the benefits/implications are. Yes, sstainabilty
is a broad and somewhat vague term, but it is a very familiar and positive
term. Single openX concepts (FOSS, OD; OA, etc.) can then be explained as
implementations of a digital sustainability strategy. I wrote about this
for the OKCon 2013 in Geneva,
http://books.buchundnetz.com/the2013openreader/chapter/open-government-data-and-free-software-cornerstones-of-a-digital-sustainability-agenda/

I have a question as well. :-) Could you describe to us, in which way(s) OK
Denmark and the Danish civil society are involved in the national strategy
development process?

Thanks & HTH,
Marcus
