[okfn-help] WebRTC (building a Skype alternative)

Hi,
recently it is becoming more and more clear that Skype is not a
long-term solution for audio group calls. IMHO this has nothing to do
with the recent acquisition by Microsoft.

While SIP is a good alternative (being used for the OKCon Programme
Committee meetings, for one), it has higher barriers to entry.

http://sites.google.com/site/webrtc/ is a relatively new effort
sponsored by Google to develop in-browser video and audio call, under a
BSD license.

While this might seem off-topic, I really can't overstate how much more
productive audio meetings are, if compared to text chat like good old
IRC. For this reason, I think we should keep an eye on the developments
of this technology, that could become one of the key components of our
community infrastructure.

Ciao!
steko
