I work with 17 other organizations across the US with the UMass Lowell
computer science program in the Open Indicators Consortium to build a cool
OPEN SOURCE Data visualization platform called Weave. Download from here –
www.oicweave.org or http://info.oicweave.org many sample sites listed,

Alex,
CartoDB is awesome but in case you are looking for free stuff you can also
use the (Google) FusionTables
that are less powerfull on the overall geo features but offer a very good

For more advanced customization geo-location aware data management check
CartoDB <http://cartodb.com/> from Vizzuality. It is a really powerful
framework.
