[Open-access] special issue on publishing reform in 'publication'?

I know the MDPI people though haven't seen them for some years. They
started with "Molecules" which is a straightforward journal for publishing
chemistry and (may be) the largest collection of OA papers in main stream
chemistry. A few years after they started I wrote to them that their
licence was not compatible with BOAI and they changed it very quickly to
CC-BY.

I use their papers as a resource for extracting chemistry but I haven't
published there. For Molecules the charge =1800 CHF ==1250 GBP approx.

I have no recent experience but believe they are a competent OA publisher.
Whether it's value for money I have no opinion. I think they are reasonably
technically competent on production, though I have found unusual fonts in
the PDFs.

So I would have no current reservations.
