Hi

As for my self, I have not seen anything more easy to grasp as looking at
figure 2 and 3 in the first chapter in this book:
http://book.openingscience.org/basics_background/towards_another_scientific_revolution.htmland
figure 1 in this chapter:
http://book.openingscience.org/basics_background/open_science_one_term_five_schools_of_thought.html

Every chapter in this book is of very high quality in my opinion:
http://book.openingscience.org/

It is one big problem in the very beginning when talking to social
scientists and humanities with that they turn off their attention
immediately when they hear the word "science" or "open". I don't know how
to get their attention, perhaps some controversial debates about
plagiarianism vs. remixing could stir some debate and enthusiasm? See
figure 2 here:
http://book.openingscience.org/vision/dynamic_publication_formats.html

Sönke Bartling & Sascha Friesike explain it very well here:

*"Firstly*, there is a singularity in the English language that
differentiates between knowledge creation that is concerned with the rules
of the natural world (science) and knowledge creation that is concerned
with the human condition (humanities). Throughout the preparation of this
book we constantly ran into this dilemma and we would like to take the
opportunity to tell you that whenever we talk about science we mean any
organized form of knowledge creation (see chapter 06, Sidler:

*Secondly*, science is often understood as the product created by a
scientist. And a scientist is understood as someone with a full-time job at
a university or a research institute. Yet, new forms of collaboration reach
far beyond our institutional understanding of doing research, which brings
us to certain dissent."
