Hello,

the North Rhine-Westphalian Library Service Centre (hbz) has published
those parts of its union catalog that were released under an open
licence [1] as Linked Open Data. The data is accessible via a
SPARQL-Endpoint [2] and a rudimentary web frontend [3]. These are
experimental services, e.g. they do not provide fulltext search
capabilities for end users.

Since the data has been released under a CC0-licence - making it
Linked Open Data and thus contrasting the Linked Data released by
other libraries - any interested party may download a complete dump of
the data [4]. The data is based on the latest exports released by the
hbz [5] in the form of RDF/ISO2709 [6].

The Bibliographic Ontology [7] was chosen to represent the catalog
data in a Linked-Data-environment. We are currently working on an
experimental transformation of the same data using RDA (Resource
Description and Access). So far, 4.896.515 records have been
converted, resulting in 82.471.813 RDF-triples. A more detailed
documentation of our activities can be found under [8].

The publication of Linked Data is organized on a decentralized basis.
In the library sector, this is reflected in the recent past by the
activities of the UB Mannheim and now through the Linked Data Service
of hbz. A problem not only limited to bibliographic data is the
resulting multiplicity of identifiers. An ongoing cooperative project
of the German National Library (DNB) and the hbz is to develop a
solution for the integration of bibliographic data from different
sources. We are currently working together on a first technical
prototype for this service. More detailed information will be
available in the coming weeks.

Cheers,
Felix
