Based on Tom's "Perfect World"... Medeley fulfills a large part of his wish
list already:

1. Has iPhone and iPad support. A Desktop version. A Web version.
2. Their Web importer already supports importing citations from just about
EVERYONE already...see here: http://www.mendeley.com/import/ as well as
COinS and metatags.
3. Sharing of annotations.
4. Group collaboration. (the level of collaboration differs between Paid
and Free however, I think.)
5. An Open Web API (just like Zotero has).
6. Soon to have Library Systems support for the major systems used
http://www.mendeley.com/blog/academic-features/announcing-the-mendeley-institutional-edition-powered-by-swets/#more-43450
7. Also soon to have Federated searching across external databases,
including those endorsing universities http://www.mendeley.com/endorsements/
7. It's FREE for up to 1GB for your own papers storage.
