   _MESSAGE FROM KARIN_

First I'd like to introduce you to [2]Jenny Ross who has joined us as Deputy
Director, also heading up our advocacy and communications activities.
Secondly, if you're free tomorrow evening (18th August), please come and
join the new and improved team for a _summer drink _at_ __[3]Brew Wharf_ in
London Bridge from 6pm onwards. Feel free to bring guests.
Following the 7th July IATI Steering Committee meeting, a second round of
[4]letters were sent by the CSO members of the [5]International Aid
Transparency Initiative (IATI) Steering Committee to the [6]signatories of
IATI. We urge them to continue their _commitment to developing a global aid
transparency standard_. We have already received a number
   of [7]response[8]s.

Another major development this month was the announcement of the U.S._
_“[10]aid transparency initiative”, as part of the [11]U.S. strategy for
reaching the MDGs. We hope this promise will be followed soon by a timeline
for delivering the policy paper to implement it, and more details of the
   piloting process.

   _NEWS THIS MONTH _
The lack of transparency in the draft _UN MDG Outcome Document_ prompted us
to join [12]Article 19 and another 6 CSOs in [13]writing to Staur and Badji,
UN Representatives for Denmark and Senegal respectively.

We also joined over 200 organisations and prominent individuals in
[14]signing an open _letter to President Obama _as part of [15]MFAN’s
“Reform within Reach” campaign. The [16]letter asks President Obama to
develop a Global Development Strategy and rewrite the U.S. Foreign
   Assistance Act.

The _Liberian Minister of Finance_, Augustine Ngafuan, made the case for the
[18]necessity of aid transparency at an aid management conference where he
