Dear all,
Here I have the minutes of our OKFN Open Economics WG Online Meet-up
on October 30, 2011.
Participants:
Guo Xu
Dirk Heine
Velichka Dimitrova
Issues discussed:
1) We discussed the competition Apps for Italy and the possibility to
submit an application based on our experience with Yourtopia.
(http://www.appsforitaly.org/). The competition is open between Nov.
20, 2011 and Jan 10, 2012. Our next steps include:
- Updating the Wiki-page of Yourtopia (Dirk) and updating our
motivation on the project. We would need some more theoretical support
and think what kind of data would be interested in the case of Italy.
North-South economical and social divide?
- Maybe it would be a good idea to build in IP tracking so that we can
analyse the responses to the quiz based on geographical location.
- We could improve the design for which we need somebody with more
experience in programming - Python and PHP...
2) Sloan Foundation Project Proposal - we discussed very briefly that
it would be a good idea to give a more detailed presentation of the
projects that we have realised so far. The proposal could incorporate
also more funding for the the Working Group itself and future
endeavours.
3) Open Knowledge Index
- a major problem is that extending the index to cover other countries
may not be possible over the OECD countries, since a lot of our data
is dependent on the OECD country data.
- re-evaluating the performance of the countries after one year may
allow us to state if a country has made progress or not...
- we should follow up on the work of Promodros Tsiavos and include an
updated version for the legal dimension as proposed by Nannette.
We would like to have more regular meet-ups for the group, next one at
the end of November to keep track of the work in progress.
As maybe there were not so many concrete and urgent issues this time,
we would expect to have more participants at the next meeting with
concrete and measurable tasks.
If you have questions about the meeting, please let me know.
Best,
Velichka Dimitrova
