Hi All,
I hope you have all had a happy new year.
A few months back Timeliner (http://timeliner.okfnlabs.org) was
introduced as a tool for enabling easy development of timelines. As a
major advance it allows us to build a timeline based on a dynamic
googledoc.
I took the time today to put the Failed bank data into Timeliner and
add a few updates. You will find it below (you might need refresh the
link a few times in order to ensure that the data and the map display
properly):
http://timeliner.okfnlabs.org/?backend=gdocs&url=https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkitojFFyvjCdHBlbmVIUEVKTF9VcjF5bzdpcURUTlE%23gid=0#explorer
As I had to do a bit of formatting of our bank data, I created a new
googledoc (see below), which serves as the backend to the timeline.
All changes you make to this sheet, will be reflected directly in the
timeline:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkitojFFyvjCdHBlbmVIUEVKTF9VcjF5bzdpcURUTlE#gid=0
Due to the format requirements of Timeliner, I have added a few
columns to the data:
- Latitude/longitude: has been added (extracted from city, country).
Notice that many banks (particular for Italy, Portugal and UK) are
only identified by country, which makes it difficult to extract
precise coordinates on the map in Timeliner. Thus any updates on bank
locations would be great
- Description: Some banks have an attached description in the sheet,
which appear as the main text in the timeline. We still need to add
additional descriptions and sources, so if you have time please go
ahead.
Finally we will need to decide regarding the next steps: Should we
bring all data (assets, auditors, bank type) on to the googledoc
serving as the backend for the timeliner and how can we add this
information in a meaningful way?
All the best,
Anders
