Expanding access to open digital resourcesAn exciting development even in the context of school-level education being “largely” devolved to states and municipalities:
“School technology expert Andrew Marcinek will serve in the Office of Educational Technology and focus on helping both K-12 and higher education connect with teaching, learning and research resources in the public domain that are freely available to anyone over the web.”
For those readers not familiar with US K-12 scene and the OER aspects, useful background reading to this can be found in the report “The Common Core State Standards Initiative and its impact on OER” by Sara Frank Bristow - https://oerknowledgecloud.org/sites/oerknowledgecloud.org/files/SharedOER_D2-1.pdf

First ever open education advisor
US Department of Education Newsletter
We're excited to announce our first ever open education advisor at the U.S. Department of Education.
Having a dedicated open education advisor position is a big deal, and will allow us to lead a national effort to expand schools’ access to high-quality, openly-licensed learning resources.
School technology expert Andrew Marcinek will serve in the Office of Educational Technology and focus on helping both K-12 and higher education connect with teaching, learning and research resources in the public domain that are freely available to anyone over the web.
Open educational resources are an important element of an infrastructure for learning and ranges from podcasts to digital libraries to textbooks and games.
The announcement was made during a visit to Williamsfield Community School District in Illinois, where U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan stopped as part of his annual back-to-school bus tour.
Read more about the Ready for Success Bus Tour.
The Williamsfield event also included the previewing of 50 videos that capture best practices of effective district leaders who use education technology in their schools. The videos can serve as professional learning for district leaders and others.
