[open-geodata] Query API for Open Data - including GeoNames

Great links. Thanks! Particularly the GeoPackage one. We'll keep it in mind.

However, we are not looking at introducing new formats. We aim to take various data sets and provide a unified query interface on top of it. We can support nested structures as well as simple tabular data (such as GeoNames). In case of the geographical structures the GeoJSON format seems like a good option, doesn't it?

Cheers,
Julius

The last thing Open Science needs is technology stovepipes! (Longer rant and ramble here: http://www.earthzine.org/2011/03/30/standards-enable-open-geoscience-opportunities/.)
