Thank you Sam!
The local Finnish OpenGLAM group (AvoinGLAM) is co-organizing an event together with Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki on the 23rd of October to introduce the The Finnish National Gallery API and the data package. After introductions there will be a workshop focusing on re-use scenarios and ideas.
If there is enough interest to join the event online we could stream it. Please let me know :-)
all the best,
Sanna

I thought it'd be fun to match the artists up with Freebase so they could be linked to there and their Wikipedia articles, but it looks like the data dump (and the API from what the documentation says) doesn't include anything other than the artists' names even though they have their own identifiers and other information such as birth & death dates as can be seen on this page:

The API is developed and published to serve developers who wish to build applications, websites and mash-ups. In addition to the API, The Finnish National Gallery provides a data-package that contains all artwork information in a single data-file.
