Those statements (at the link you provided) are fascinating, pertinent, and succinct, as always, Diane. Thanks to you and your colleagues for that.
This, in particular, is a subtlety I had wondered about:
"However, if the low-resolution and high-resolution copies are the same work under applicable copyright law<http://wiki.creativecommons.org/Frequently_Asked_Questions#How_do_I_know_if_a_low-resolution_photo_and_a_high-resolution_photo_are_the_same_work.3F>, permission under a CC license is not limited to a particular copy, and someone who receives a copy in high resolution may use it under the terms of the CC license applied to the low-resolution copy."
I am always amazed at the intricacies of copyright law, and I am always grateful to the institutions that let me work another way.

Hi Michael,
You may find this relatively new FAQ on how CC licenses operate in the hi-res/lo-res context of interest.

Kate Blanch of the Walters (cc'd on this message) asks a good question
about practices regarding licensing and © for the same source file
provided to users at different resolutions.
(I strongly feel that the Open Glam Principles should provide guidance and
leadership on this issue, e.g., we should discourage the practice of
giving away the low-resolution/low-quality files and enclosing
bigger/better ones. I'm happy to digress on why, ad nauseam ;)
