Dear Effie,

Is the collaborative slide deck that was presented at SXSW also available for the Giving it away to get rich: open cultural heritage presentation?

Hello colleagues,

In summer 2015, I conducted a study on the impact open access is having on “early adopters.” I interviewed over a dozen GLAM organizations across the world who had released their collections in the public domain or CC0. I just returned from SXSW where I presented the findings with case studies from Shana Kimball of the New York Public Library Labs, and Shyam Oberoi of the Dallas Museum of Art.

The results are as many of you on this list would expect; increased brand reputation, increased public satisfaction, more efficient digitization/publication workflows, etc. The thing that surprised me is that increasingly organizations are at risk of losing funds from organizations that are now requiring open as a term of their gift.

I am happy for folks to check this out, send feedback, quote, and share with whomever you like! I will update the study in the near future once I have the final information from NYPL’s case study.

Cheers from DC!
