[open-government] International Hackhaton - RHoK?

Hi all,
I'm one of the people in both the RHOK and OGHD camps. And I have a suggestion for you all... basically, I'd like to run a combined RHOK / OGHD camp in Birmingham UK.
This makes sense to me on several levels:
* History: the last hackathon in this venue was crisis software for local authorities that was produced as part of the Beyond 2010 open government event
* Opportunity: There are people in the UN thinking about humanitarian open data, and putting humanitarians and open government folks in the same space could spark some good ideas on this
* Geography: The UK is roughly halfway round the world in hackathon timezone terms, and could link the two camp sets together.
But I could really do with your opinions on this.
And volunteers! We have a venue in the centre of Birmingham for the 4th and 5th December, if we can find people to run the hackathon on the day. There are people (including myself) who are happy to help organising before the event, but they're all away for the weekend itself - either on holidays or in camps on the other side of the world.
So a) what do you think of this idea, and b) who wants to join in?
Thank you,
Sara.

yes that was pointed out earlier. David Eaves got in touch with the
organizing people, and we connect where possible I think.

hi Pedro - I've been in touch with the RhoK people. They are awesome.
At the moment they aren't able to link the events but are supportive.
They also are only in a few cities and are focused more on apps for
crisis management. That said, I know there is a lot of interest on their
part in open data and being supportive of that, and of course, we love
RHoK...
I've linked to their site on the opendataday.org website and if we are
able to integrate the events more closely we will, but in the meantime,
we have a lot of people in cities where RHoK doesn't have events where
people would like to get together, and I'm keen on supporting anyone who
wants to have an event.
Also, the World Bank (which is sponsoring the RHoK event) has been in
touch a few times, they also want to help support the International Open
Data Hackathon so I know there is a real desire to ensure that both
events support each other.
Hopefully there will be more news on this front soon.
cheers,
dave

Hi Everyone,
I realized I tweeted and blogged about this but did not post it to the
newsgroup.
The International Open Data Hackathon webiste and wiki has been
launched. For those planning events please come check it out. There are
a number of people signing up to participate there so a great place to
add your name and recruit people to help organize your local event.
http://www.opendataday.org/
I'm hoping to put up a template for what a city event organizing page on
the wiki should look like shortly.
cheers,
dave
