[open-government] Second edition of the Spatialist workshop on legal issues of geographic data

Dear sir, dear madam,

The Spatialist project would like to invite you to its second workshop on legal aspects of geographic data, taking place in Leuven, Belgium on Friday 18 March 2011, from 9.30 to 17.00.

This workshop intends to bring together the members of the GI&SDI community whose work and activities are aimed to progress the research, policy and practice with regard to the legal aspects of geographic data, either as a lawyer or as a researcher or professional in other fields closely related with law or policy. The objective of the workshop is to have an annual meeting where we can get an overview of existing research and discuss newly emerging legal issues.

For the second edition, three main themes are on the agenda. The morning session will be dedicated to licensing policies and the possibilities for harmonization. In the first session of the afternoon we will address location privacy, and the second afternoon session will deal with the new calls for a "right to data". For each theme, there will be two or three short presentations followed by a discussion, to which you are all invited to participate. Speakers include Paul Uhlir (The National Academies), Melanie Dulong-Rosnay (CNRS), Helen Darbishire (Access Info), Ed Parsons (Google), Bastiaan van Loenen (TU Delft) and Eleni Kosta (K.U.Leuven).  The exact titles of their presentations will be made available later.

The workshop will take place at the premises of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Law and ICT of the K.U.Leuven. Information on the location and accommodation options is in the attached file.  In order to enable a good discussion, we can only include maximum 25 participants.
