Hi all,
The World Bank and the World Wide Web Foundation are pleased to announce the launch of an Open Government Data Community of Practice (CoP). The Open Data CoP will connect World Bank staff, external experts, and government clients. It will focus on Open Government Data supply (policy and implementation perspectives) and demand (community and citizen perspectives) in internal Bank and external use cases. You can join the OGD Community of Practice on LinkedIn at [1]. Tariq and myself will be the facilitators of this CoP.
To mark this launch, we wish to invite you to a "brown bag lunch" on the role of Open Government Data (OGD) in developing countries with discussion on the Kenya and Moldova efforts [2]. This event will take place at The World Bank offices in Washington, DC (USA) and it will be webcasted at [3].
Please, find the official announcement below and contact any of us if you're in town and wish to attend.
Best,
Josema.

The Open Government Partnership (OGP) was launched on September 20th in New York City, marking the beginning of a new phase in government transparency, accountability, and citizen participation. Open Government Data initiatives are seen as a key element of open government agenda, and have been adopted by governments around the world..
To mark the launch of this CoP, we wish to invite you to a BBL on the role of Open Government Data (OGD) in developing countries. The event will feature a keynote presentation by Jose Manuel Alonso, Program Manager for Open Data at the World Wide Web Foundation.
We will discuss examples from Kenya and Moldova, first two groundbreaking OGD initiatives supported by the Bank. These examples will illustrate different approaches to the successful incorporation of Open Government Data initiatives into Bank client relationships. Discussion may include:
· What makes Open Data initiatives successful? What lessons have we learned so far?
· How does the Kenya model differ from the Moldova experience? What are the pros and cons of each? What are the priorities for the next stage? How these differ from Open Data initiatives in developed countries?
· What can World Bank and our partners do to mainstream Open Data in developing countries?
· What kind of funding is required and for what purpose?
