Hi Daniel
Some further revision is required to take into account the position in countries which recognise copyright in complex data collections and original databases but do not have sui generis data base rights. From our Australian perspective there are 2 areas that need further development (of course I will do this if you can give me a week or so before you go live with the Manual):
(1) making it clear that the CC BY and CC SA licences can be used on data; at the moment it appears that only the CC 0 non-licence can be used on data; this is not correct and CC 0 is not used in Australia;
(2) the Australian part of the jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction guide is a bit out of date and could do with an overhaul to reflect more recent case law developments.
As a general note, I think it is best to indicate where you are talking about law and licensing in a jurisdiction-specific way, as some of the information in the guide as it stands does not reflect the law in all jurisdictions.
Also, given the already widespread use of the CC BY licence in particular, I think that perhaps some further information on it could be included.
I am happy to help with the above, but will require a few days to get it done.
regards
Anne

Hi all
Laura Newman just sent this to the open data manual mailing list and I thought this is also interesting to some of you.
Thanks to the hard work of everybody contributing, we are almost ready to announce the launch of v1.0 of the Open Data Handbook! You can take a peek at http://opendatahandbook.org/. The official announcement will be publicised next Tuesday, so keep an eye on the OKFN blog.
Also, be aware that **the name of this mailing list will be changing**. Because of the name change to Open Data Handbook, open-data-manual at lists.okfn.org will become open-data-handbook at lists.okfn.org as of next Tuesday. There is no need to take action now, but if you use filters be aware that you may need to re-set them.
Finally, we would love to get the Open Data Handbook translated into as many languages as possible! We will be doing a big push for translators next week, but if any of you are linguists and would like to get started early, go to https://www.transifex.net/projects/p/opendatahandbook/ and sign up. Instructions can be found http://wiki.okfn.org/Projects/Open_Data_Handbook#Translator.
It's really exciting to see this all coming together, and I look forward to sharing the Open Data Handbook with the world next week. Thanks everyone!!
All the best
Daniel

Daniel, all,
Its great to see this progressing! However, its a little unfortunate,
that Linked Data as a means to publish Open Data in a non-proprietary,
machine-readable format does not seem to be mentioned in the current
draft. I think without a standard conforming data representation, which
facilitates data integration (such as RDF and Linked Data) open data is
only a fraction as useful as it could be.
A good input for integrating this aspect into the Open Data manual might
also be Chris' LOD book:
http://linkeddatabook.com/editions/1.0/
Best,
S?ren

Dear S?ren,
thanks for this feedback. I think you raised a valid point. We should incorporate this asap. We should think of a way to include a short introduction into the topic and then link to the mentioned Book by Tom Heath and Christian Bizer.
Regards
Daniel
