Dear Jonathan,

This hackathon was organized by the Department of Online Services and Design
which has been recently set up under the prime-minister, after one year of
consistent advocacy efforts from Soros Foundation Romania, The Association
for Technology and Internet (APTI) and other NGOs, as well as from the
American Chamber of Commerce. It is the first time this is happening in
Romania, which is an incredible change, but still the websites created are
not yet functional or fully functional. Radu Puchiu, adviser of the
prime-minister on this issue and coordinator of the Department of Online
Services, is responsible for the hackathon and recent open data initiatives
in the government.

Open data has been introduced in the governmental agenda and things seem to
be slowly moving into the right direction. We will continue to push for the
implementation of these commitments.

Best regards,
Andra.

Subject: [open-government] Romanian Hackathon?

Does anyone know anyone who was involved with this?

Great to see some activity from Romania and would be good to get in touch
re: some of the prototypes and to see whether they will be doing more like
this in the future (and more in the way of data release!)...
