  Hosting Idlelo 7

Bids to host the 7th African Conference on FOSS and the Digital Commons 
is now open.

*What is Idlelo?*

IDLELO6 is a Southern Africa word meaning "*Common Grazing Ground*". 
Idlelo captures the essence of FOSSFA's existence as well as the 
fundamental objective of the conference. The Conference is a forum for 
inclusive deliberations, assessments, strategies, and implementation of 
ICT policy, innovation, and trends. Idlelo, over the past sixeditions, 
has proved its necessity and has established beyond doubts that it is 
the one African event for FOSS practitioners, developers and advocates 
as well as governments to showcase results, share experiences, exchange 
challenges, review progress on the continent in diverse domains and 
chart a way forward for the following years.

The primary goal of IDLELO7 is to increase the awareness, integration 
and adoption of free and open source software (FOSS) in Africa.


    Who can submit a proposal? What are the criteria?

Be a FOSSFA member; Be sure of government buy in; Have a National 
network of FOSS actors; Propose a host Institution; Be sure of at least 
3 national partners and Capacity to organise a high-level IT conference.

*How do I submit a bid?*

    When will I know the result?


The host for Idlelo 7 will be announced by the end of July, 2014.

Idlelo has been held in: Southern Africa (*South Africa*)-2004, Eastern 
Africa (*Kenya*)-2006, Francophone West Africa (*Senegal*)-2008, 
Anglophone West Africa (*Ghana*)-2010, Anglophone West Africa 
(*Nigeria*)-2012 and Eastern Africa (*Kenya*)-2014.

All countries have equal chances to bid. For regions or countries where 
Idlelo has not be held before, bidders may add that information in their 
proposal.


    When exactly is Idlelo 7?

Idlelo 7 will most preferably be in the first quarter of 2016.
