I'm all in favour of using known standards. But I dislike the idea of
using XML as a basis for a unified API.
I'm not an avid fan of XML developer APIs, if someone could convince
me otherwise, please do so, I'm all ears.

I was more thinking REST wise, ie: GET /linksto/${docuid}.json which
returns a list of urls. and so forth
