I'm definitely in favour, I've attended the last two ESOFs and thou=
ght they were really good. They attract a cross-disciplinary crowd with rep=
resentatives from sci comm/publishing/policy/industry etc as well as resear=
chers. There's usually a lot of early career scientists in particular b=
ecause they give a big discount to people under 35. Peter Murray Rust spoke=
in 2008 in Barcelona on the topic of open data in science (abstract from s=
ession posted at the end of this email, although it is ridiculously broad!)=

Perhaps we could take a look at some exciting things that are being don=
e/could be done with open data (rather than a general 'why is open good=
' discussion), and then examine why it isn't all happening yet. May=
be we could make this a discussion with the audience as to why they might/m=
ight not consider publishing their data openly? Entirely different suggesti=
ons and further thoughts welcome!
