Interesting question. I'd also go with David Dobbs, and the Guardian
journalist who wrote that piece on open science a month or so back was
Bobbie Johnson: http://twitter.com/#!/bobbiejohnson. Feels like Carl Zimmer
and Ed Yong are sympathetic, but have not written specifically on the
subject (?)

I sometimes wonder if open science seems so obvious to those outside science
(i.e. people not actively practising it) that they think the issue doesn't
need pushing. It's only if you're doing science that you see the barriers
and disincentives up close?
