It's just one week until Open Knowledge Festival 2014, and we're so excited
to see you all! If you haven't got tickets yet, book here
now, and if you need some extra convincing as to why you absolutely
shouldn't miss it, read on...
At OKFestival, there is truly something for everyone. With 66 sessions,
four inspirational Keynotes and a super-special Fireside Chat all packed
into 2.5 exciting days, the *Open Knowledge Festival* is an opportunity for
attendees to listen, brainstorm, make, learn, explore and hack the future
of the open knowledge movement.
The emphasis of festival will be on practical participation; *Open Minds to
We believe that Knowledge
act as the levers of real change and as such the community-curated
OKFestival programme is organised around these three narrative
informs change*, *tools enable change* and *society effects change*; as
part of the OKFestival programme, experts from different sectors and
different countries will lead us in unlocking, expanding and sharing
knowledge, helping us build tools to facilitate the flow of knowledge and
finally, translating open knowledge into positive social change.
OKFestival will open each day with two inspirational keynote addresses and
a fireside chat; their talks will help set the tone for the day’s
activities. We are honoured to be able to welcome Neelie Kroes
, Beatriz Busaniche
, Patrick Alley
, Eric Hysen
and Ory Okolloh
to the OKFestival stage. We will learn how to use *hard evidence to fight
corruption*, be *called upon to come to the defense of the public domain*,
discover how to better *harness the power and potential of open data*,
discuss the *key tenets of civic technology* and explore the *future of
technology and activism*.
Art and Opening Fair
We'll have lots of amazing, interactive and engaging activities to
participate in at Open Knowledge Festival 2014 - from the moment we kick
off with our Opening Fair on the evening of Tuesday 15th until we close our
doors on Thursday night..
>From our Kenyan artists
who’ll be running a live graffiti wall, to our Berlin-based tricksters The
our Arts Wall and other installations, prepare to be inspired and amazed.
We've also got incredible data visualisations, and even live music from
some of the best African musicians around. Our amazing Opening Fair which
will include FabLab Berlin
Maker Workshops, demos of sensor-enhanced hive designs for bees from Open
and so much more. We’ve even got your taste buds covered, with the super
cool, uber-Berlin Buns Mobile
and other amazing food trucks! Got your tickets
There are many fabulous ideas and sessions which we couldn’t fit into the
Festival’s incredibly oversubscribed programme this year, but we weren’t
keen on the idea of missing out on them altogether and so unFestival was
created as the place for them to shine! We also wanted to create space for
feedback where people could elaborate on ideas or inspiration which had
struck during other OKFestival sessions.
At OKFestival, all participants will have the opportunity to lead and steer
the open knowledge movement forward - come and join them
Stay tuned to all things unFestival via okfestival.org/unfestival
and look out for the unFestival wall where you can pitch your ideas every
morning for after-lunch presentations. See you there!
*Stories wanted! Are you a natural-born orator? Do you have the gift of the
gab? Are you excited to share inspiring stories about amazing people and
Storytelling is crucial to ensuring that we capture and carry forward the
innovation, inspiration and progress made over the course of OKFestival.
We’re building a community storytelling team to collaboratively tell the
story of the festival; our goal is to co-create and compile all the best
OKFestival Stories, capturing all the gems, visions and tidbits so we can
share these amazing stories forever more. Whether you are in Berlin for the
big event or halfway across the globe, you can be our eyes and our curators.
The Future is Open
Over the course of the two and half days, we will collaboratively build the
tools, solve the problems and form the partnerships necessary to ensure the
future is one in which the world’s knowledge commons is open to everyone
and is a true force for positive change.
Be part of the future of the open world.
