I don't know the details of ScienceSeeker. At mathblogging we do two things:
* We manually categorize blogs. Posts from that blog are then automatically
shown under this category.
* We do a lot of human editing. Our editors regularly present their
favorite posts as "picks" on the site. Obviously that is a lot of work but
has also had a much bigger impact than any automated solution.
The best way to learn more is to contact the current maintainers of these
projects directly. I am not currently working on Mathblogging any more. See
the about section on ScienceSeeker and Mathblogging, respectively.
