Hi all,

We're back April 9 with this month's Science Lab community call! The call
kicks off at 11 ET. Dial in information can be found below.

This month, we’ve invited speakers to join us on the topic of *publishing
negative results*. First up, Dan Katz <https://twitter.com/danielskatz>
will be joining us to discuss the upcoming ERROR Conference
<https://press3.mcs.anl.gov/errorworkshop/>, a meeting in Hamburg, Germany
this September 3, in conjunction with the 11th eScience Conference. From
the ERROR webpage, ‘*The ERROR workshop aims at providing a forum for
researchers who have invested significant efforts in a piece of work that
failed to bear the expected fruit*‘; Dan will be telling us more and taking
questions on the event.

Also joining us will be Simine Vazire <https://twitter.com/siminevazire>,
discussing why publishing null results is essential for making ideas &
theories falsifiable. Related, she will also touch on the fact that
conceptual replications are most useful if we publish null results.

Stephen Curry <https://twitter.com/Stephen_Curry> will be calling in to
discuss his recent blog post, The Importance Of Being Negative
<http://www.theguardian.com/science/occams-corner/2015/mar/08/on-the-importance-of-being-negative?CMP=share_btn_tw>,
in which he describes the circumstances around his group’s recent null
result publications, examines the biases in publishing and academia towards
positive results, and discusses the pitfalls in that existing model.

Finally, Eva Amsen <https://twitter.com/easternblot> from F1000
<http://f1000.com/> will close out the hour discussing F1000’s Negative
Results Campaign. In the Summer and Autumn of 2013, F1000 waived fees for
papers submitting null results; Eva will be discussing what came of this
campaign, and the role of publishers like F1000 in the evolving discussion
around publishing all research results.
