Dear all,

There are only three days left to vote for the six finalists of the Open
Science Prize (https://www.openscienceprize.org), a global science
competition to make both the outputs from science and the research process
broadly accessible. The most promising, innovative and impactful prototype
from among the six finalists will receive the grand prize of $230,000. Open
Knowledge International is taking part with the OpenTrialsFDA project.

*Background:* You can watch this short 3-minute video
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOWJL9Px9uA> or read more below:
OpenTrialsFDA makes clinical trial data from the FDA (the US Food and Drug
Administration) more easily accessible and searchable through a new
user-friendly web interface at https://fda.opentrials.net. Until now, this
information has been hidden in the user-unfriendly Drug Approval Packages
that the FDA publishes via its dataportal Drugs at FDA
<https://lists.okfn.org/mailman/listinfo/open-science>. Having this
information more easily available will improve the quality of research,
helping evidence-based treatment decisions to be properly informed.
The project is a collaboration between Dr. Erick Turner (a
psychiatrist-researcher
and transparency advocate), Dr. Ben Goldacre (Senior Clinical Research
Fellow in the Centre for Evidence Based Medicine at the University of
Oxford) and the team behind OpenTrials at Open Knowledge International.
More information is also available from this blog
<http://opentrials.net/2016/12/01/opentrialsfda-presents-prototype-as-finalist-for-the-open-science-prize/>
.

*Why we need votes*: In order for us to fully develop OpenTrialsFDA, we
need to win the Open Science Prize. Of the 6 finalist teams, only 3
“super-finalist” teams will go before the expert panel, and those teams
will be determined by the number votes received.

PLEASE VOTE HERE <http://event.capconcorp.com/wp/osp/vote-now/>! You can
vote for your preferred #1, #2, and #3 finalists. There is more
information available on each of the prototypes there as well,
demonstrating the value of open data and content for science.

*Please spread the word*: If you have colleagues who you think might be
interested in our project or who are interested in open science in general.

Many thanks and best regards,

Lieke Ploeger.
