I have been developing a project as a fellow at the Berkeley Center for New
Media, and I'm pleased to announce it:
*July 1 was the launch of Hack the Bells - the world's first juried open
license new media contest.* This contest is for anyone who has skills in
music, remix, writing, art, new media, dance, hacking - ANYTHING goes! All
works submitted must be licensed under CC BY SA 4.0!
The winner of this contest, which celebrates the music of the carillon,
will be awarded $700 USD and their work will be acquired by the University
of California, Berkeley, and the Anton Brees Carillon Library. You will
also have the opportunity to perform your piece if it requires such, on
campus. Two runner-up's will be awarded $100 USD each.
You can submit artwork or even apps, robots, whatever - hack the bells by
simply downloading the freely licensed music on the website, or use the
freely licensed images we have available - or create something unique to
you that is carillon oriented.
*Submissions are due September 1. Anyone can submit - from anywhere!*
Our jury includes:
-Jeff Davis, University Carillonist, UC Berkeley
-Alex Freeman, Director of Special Projects, The New Media Consortium
-Lizzy Jongma, Datamanager at the Rijksmusuem
-Susan Miller, Program Manager of The Consortium for Interdisciplinary
Research (CIR), UC Berkeley
-Greg Niemeyer, Director, Berkeley Center for New Media
Please spread the word! (#hackthebells)
