No, I’m not planning to run my own instance… more like your second suggestion, adding the content into the current system and using country or  tags to filter out a particular selection.
Ideally, several persons could take care of the curation of dataset descriptions (in the case of the Swiss hackathon, any registered user could edit the dataset descriptions)

I seriously consider the “Open Collections” section as a possible alternative to keeping our own list of open datasets.
For some countries the lacking multilingual support may be a drawback, though...

Could you clarify what you mean by reproduced. To run Omeka you need to have an instantiation on your server - is this what you would be after?

We could quite easily pull your content into the current system - most of the metadata already fits - we could add contact as an extra field. It could then be filtered by country e.g here is a search for US collections<http://omeka.okfn.org/items/browse?search=&advanced%5b0%5d%5belement_id%5d=53&advanced%5b0%5d%5btype%5d=is+exactly&advanced%5b0%5d%5bterms%5d=US&range=&collection=&type=&user=&tags=&public=&featured=&exhibit=&geolocation-address=&geolocation-latitude=46.818188&geolocation-longitude=8.227511999999933&geolocation-radius=&submit_search=Search+for+items> (all searches are contained in the url so this could be modified) or maybe by geographic address or radius. This seems relatively straightforward to do. Tags is another way we could do this.

Do you have any of this info as a CSV file? I could have a go at importing it.

Thanks for reviewing Joris, really useful.

A few comments:

 *   Rights - I agree that the star system doesn't work but it would be nice to have a system in place that lets us showcase the most open collections. I'm currently trying out the exhibit option so this could be a way to highlight great work. Definitely something to be discussed in the call!
 *   Tags - Currently these can be managed pretty easily within the system (batch editing, searching etc.). I'm just looking into how we manage these when people contribute items - there is a plugin for this - may need some configuring. Probably the easiest way to go forward would be to agree on a set of tags from the start. These can be extended to but it would still useful to have a list up front. Maybe something to brainstorm in the call?
I'd like to suggest we add the following to the list as they tie in with the Europeana Space pilots: TV, Photography, Dance, Games, HybridPublishing, Museums
Some brief guidelines might be useful too e.g. capitalised, content that doesn't fit into another metadata box etc.
 *   Accounts - Still looking in to this - we seem to be able to get people in but it's a bit messy. If people want to look at the back end register (through the contribute page) and then email me.

I can't make the meeting on 4th so Lieke should be able to support any discussions and pass feedback on. Agree that we need to get the basics right first so will park the other ideas for later.

I'd like to share more widely soon but think I'd prefer to wait till we have some styling in place then people will also be able to share their thoughts on how it looks too. Hopefully not too long now!

I'm probably not going to be able to make the call as I'm away most of next week but I wanted to update you on how the Open Collections page is coming along.

We now have a new site on a different server (the other was a test server). There is quite a bit of content and I'm just in discussions with our designer regarding the CSS and styling (to align it with the rest of the OpenGLAM site).

The site is currently at http://omeka.okfn.org/ it will be moved to http://openglam.org/open-collections/ later on.

Some areas I'd like help with:

 *   We need to think about how we deal with rights. Should this be by star ratings for PD content (e.g. http://omeka.okfn.org/items/show/89) or is there another approach? Any ideas?
I think stars for rights can be a bit problematic. I think we should just mention the rights and link to a page that explains them (PD Mark, CC BY etc.). Issue with stars is that they don't mean so much. If you are a very open institution, but you just don't happen to have that much material that is in the PD, does that mean you get less stars? A discussion we can have is what to do with material that is in the PD, but licensed with a CC BY license for example (Wellcome). Also, the 5 star system of Berners-Lee is mostly applicable on metadata I think, not so much on the content itself. If we look at the content with this system I think hardly any of them would get 5 stars.

 *   Any thoughts on the metadata we are collecting for each item? Is there more you'd like to see? We can use Dublin core<http://omeka.org/codex/Working_with_Dublin_Core> or make up our own fields
I think DC is fine. Don't know if other people have thoughts?

Can we limit them and people contributing pick one? For example 'castle' does not seem like the most useful one. Architecture for example should be there I think. If people are missing tags they can suggest and we can add. Not sure if we should add countries as tags, what do people think?

 *   What should go on the search page<http://omeka.okfn.org/items/search> - is there currently too much? Should we reduce it/ restructure it?
I think the search only gets useful if there is really a load of material up there, which is currently not the case. Also, I recently heard at Europeana Tech some good talks from people who are anti-search boxes. They don't guide the user at all. I much prefer to do it with proper tagging so people can browse by category.

I created an account but it says my pw is incorrect. If I try to reset it gives an error..

 *   Anyone technical care to have a look at the output formats - see the bottom of a browse page (atom, dcmes-xml, json, omeka-json, omeka-xml, rss2). There is an API available too - note to myself to look into this.
 *   It was suggested that we could provide information about applications making use of these open GLAM collections - any ideas on how this could be done?
I suggest we do this in the second phase of development. Let's get this right first.

 *   Also suggested that we could provide a tracking system showing which collections are also available within Wikimedia Commons and/or Europeana, DPLA, or similar - thoughts on doing this?
I think setting up a tracking system is a bit too much work atm. Perhaps we can add a field in the contributions page where we ask 'Set available in Europeana? Yes/No and the possibility to include the link.
