I've had a little play with fusion tables in the past - eg

http://blog.ouseful.info/2009/08/03/personalising-news-stories-with-interactive-data-doo-dahs-choosing-your-university/
(education data from guardain datastore)
http://blog.ouseful.info/2010/06/01/plotting-comment-networks-in-gephi-part-ii/
(social network data)

Just in passing, it's worth noting that you can search over google spreadsheets
- and create your own google custom search engine over such things - using the
search limits: eg

education site:spreadsheets.google.com inurl:key= -inurl:viewform=

You should also be able to spot how to just find google spreadsheet forms ;-)

Other google data searching tricks: eg
site:gov.uk (filetype:xls OR filetype:csv)
