Gemma, this has been very useful.
I've outlined what we have done with this below, but I have two questions
for now: what is the saving that is required for the 2011-2012 and also
for in five years time?
We've taken a look in the press release
http://www.ifs.org.uk/publications/5034 and saw that "£85 billion would be
needed by 2014-15" but of this £51 billion is already been planned by
Labour, so that leaves with £34 billion.
Would £34 billion be a good choice to set as our target for reductions
over 5 years? What would be a good target for 2011-2012, or a suggestion
for where I can look to find one?
Based on http://www.ifs.org.uk/budgets/gb2010/10chap7.pdf and Tim's
calculations we have come up with a list of tax increases and spending cuts:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=t2_3h2d5ZJRwtvsGRIX_mzA#gid=0
Would be great to hear back what people think of these choices so far.
Many thanks,
Lisa
