Hi Marco, Sander

Excellent. As far as I know the data will be csv and/or excel.

These are the (Dutch) column headers contained in the data, and their
description:

Periode maand waarin bedrag is
uitgegeven

ontvangst

Judging from that description it allows you to see transaction level data,
while at the same time perceive three aggregate levels representing their
internal accounting and reporting structure. Some transactions will be
obscured, due to various economic grounds for exception. (Mind you, they
are not covered by the Freedom of Information Act / WOB, but they use it as
a yardstick anyway and act as if they are covered by it nonetheless. They
have no obligation at all to answer to the public, but obviously as their
role is tracking gov money on behalf of the public, they are keenly aware
they represent public interest and should act accordingly) Also note they
specifically demarcate board related costs from other operational costs.

FYI, originally this data has been already released to all employees
internally, to figure out if it opens up interesting new discussions etc,
points to cost saving possibilities. They did that in the spring of 2013.
Opening up to the public is their next step on this path.

Their rationale for opening up is that as the High Court of Audit, and the
constitutionally appointed institute for financial transparency of gov,
they want to lead by example. That they intend to use as leverage to get
government Ministries to do the same thing.

They will also release a 'Trend Report' Open Data on Thursday giving a
first overview of how far they think Ministries are. They will aim to
repeat that every few months to track progress.

It would be great if you two would see opportunity to get the data into
openspending.org quickly, so that a few quick visualizations are possible.
It will help their open data team to show their colleagues there is active
interest in the steps they are taking.

I will put you in touch with my contact at the Algemene Rekenkamer, so they
can send you the data as soon as they release it.

(disclaimer: I have been working with them for the past year or so,
providing advise and facilitating sessions/discussions with relevant
Ministries.)

best,
Ton
