[pd-discuss] Activities for Public Domain Day 2013

The list Adrian generated from the Freebase query that I put together for
him has almost 500 authors on it. The other one has 41. That's a pretty
big difference.

I also have an OpenRefine (ex-Google Refine) project with 878 authors who
died in 1942 according to authorandbookinfo.com. About half of those have
been matched with their equivalent Freebase entries

Anything from either list which is matched with Freebase can be easily
linked to Wikipedia, OpenLibrary, VIAF, Library of Congress, MusicBrainz
(for composers), etc.

Additional work could be done to identify musicians, film people, etc,
although I'm not as familiar with the laws covering those works.

There are lots of things which *could* be done, but there are only 11 days
until the end of the year and many of them are holidays. This is (at
least) the third "let's put something together" call. I'm happy to
contribute, but I'd like to see a single coordinated effort rather than 3-4
separate efforts.

Tom
