Hi All,
The trouble with the new v5 WRT54G is getting worse. Here in India the
Linksys dealers are sending v5 and after complains do not have an
alternative to replace them.
I am visiting the community wireless project here in the mountains of
Dharamsala at the moment and the project founder Yahel mentioned this
much better engineered and feature rich little box, the Linksys
WGT634U.

Its OS is Open Source, see:
http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101238.asp

It seems to run LEAF (Linux Embedded Appliance Firewall):
http://leaf.sourceforge.net/index.php?menu=1

It has an Atheros Mini-PCI and a USB2 port and openWRT is running, see:
http://wiki.openwrt.org/OpenWrtDocs/Hardware/Netgear/WGT634U

The USB port makes it possible to add a second Wi-Fi radio from an
inexpensive USB wi-fi dongle and the double radio mesh box is now
reality, as Yahel has field-proven in Dharamsala here.

Prices for the WGT634U are dropping fast, I found $65 in the US, €
79.50 in Germany and 65 pound in UK.

So lets drop this foolish Linksys company and switch...

Ciao,
Fred Pook (now renamed FreddyLa in Tibetan)
