I presume the nature of the scrip was that it was impossible to
determine the trading volume over the weekend. What happened at the
end? Were they collected back in?

For an event currency, you could ask the traders to keep a tally on
the back of each note every time they pass it on. At the end, you
could calculate the volume by multiplying the tallies with the face
value of all the notes.
