So what implications is this going to have on the Open Source Firmwares for
wifi routers and all the associated software / methods.

The aricle is a fairly long one , so am not posting the text.

Seems to me this ia a fairly direct attack on any method of altering any
computing device in anyway. First we had UEFI and now this.

While it seems centred on the US, it doesn't take much time for certain
other parties to jump onto the bandwagon, and also in places where much of
the equipment is drawn from US sources.
