Hi Marco,

Sorry for the late reply. CC'ing the dev list as this might be of
interest to other people.

We can not open yet the translations on Transifex for 2.2 because we
are still currently developing it and new strings could be added in
the meantime. What we do generally is doing a feature and strings
before the release (if all goes well this should happen at the
beginning of December for 2.2) and then enable the translations.

Having said that, the safest and quickest way to get your translations
fast into your CKAN deployment is updating your own translation files
locally. This way you can fully translate your CKAN instance without
depending on our releases, contribute the translations made back to
CKAN when they are enabled on Transifex and have them available on the
next release.

To do so:

In the CKAN source code there is a i18n folder that contains all
translations for the different languages. For instance the Italian
files are located here:

ckan/i18n/it/LC_MESSAGES

There are two files here: ckan.po and ckan.mo. ckan.po is a text file
that you can translate directly. You'll see that there are the English
messages and the translated ones just below..
Once the ckan.po file has been edited, you need to generate the
compiled files that CKAN actually uses (ckan.mo), with the following
command (you need to have your virtualenv activated):

python setup.py compile_catalog

After doing this, you can copy this files on your server to get the
translations:

ckan/i18n/it/LC_MESSAGES/ckan.mo
ckan/i18n/it/LC_MESSAGES/ckan.po

Once the translations become available again on Transifex, you'll only
would need to merge your changes and upload the ckan.po in order to
update the core CKAN translations.

Hope this makes sense, let me know if you have any doubt.

Adrià
