Dear all,

I'm pleased to announce the launch of a new set of APIs to navigate the
the metadata on data.gov.uk. The APIs exposed are currently a subset of
the APIs already provided by a normal CKAN install.

I've written a blog post on the data.gov.uk site explaining how the APIs
can be used for simple listing and search operations and I've given some
examples in jQuery to demonstrate that the APIs can even be accessed
directly from a web browser:

The catalogue itself is at:

http://catalogue.data.gov.uk/

The example code is at:

http://data.gov.uk/sites/default/files/dgu_example_code.zip

I'd be happy to hear any feedback you have. One area of improvement for
the future could be to directly serve certain parts of the datasets
themselves to enable simple "mashups" to be build directly against the
catalogue.data.gov.uk server, without the need for an application
developer to manually download associated resources.

Best wishes,

James
