FYI I just came across this area for adding new ideas: https://github.com/okfn/ckan/wiki/Ideas:-new-feature-requests-&-ideas

Hi Joss,

I don't think that Trello allows users to create new cards on public boards. I'm not sure what's the plan for feature requests (probably send them to the list?), Ira is the one managing the roadmap, she'll be back tomorrow and I'm sure will come back to you.

Adri?

Hi all,

The new translations for the upcoming version of CKAN are ready on Transifex. Please visit the following URL if you want to help making CKAN a true polyglot!

https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/ckan/resource/2-1/

You will need a free Transifex account, and you can use the online forms on the website to add your translation or review existing ones.

The good news is that there aren't many new strings on this version since 2.0 so it shouldn't take long to bring your favourite language up to date!

We aim to pull the updated translations at the beginning of next week.

Thanks a lot,

Adri?

I am new to CKAN and I am not sure if all custom code development to add new features have to be implemented as CKAN extensions. What about changing any of the existing functionalities?

Thanks
Pabitra

Hi, Mark and all!

Well, in regards to someone requesting multilingual fields before, I've found this message from Jonathan Gray [1] in 2010. I also remember having mentioned it myself at some point when we were discussing a CKAN wishlist in one of CKAN's discussion lists.

Anyway, I think installing the multilingual extension on datahub.io would suffice. What are the technical issues you mentioned?

What I'd like to do is to finally merge the datasets on br.ckan.net into datahub.io (and shut down the old site). I'd help with translating the metadata into english versions of the dataset descriptions. Most of the local CKAN sites have been merged with datahub.io by now. At the time most were merged, my only objection to doing it on the Brazilian instance was that we couldn't have multilingual metadata fields yet then. But now there's this extension which should solve that problem. I'd like to read the thoughts of the community on this idea.

Hey Pabitra,

We suggest that you use extensions for all customizations. This will make sure that you don't break any core functionalities and keep CKAN upgradable. Also, it's a lot easier to get started with a new extension than to change the CKAN core. If you need to change existing functionalities, you can do that in an extension. Basically all core functionalities can be overridden in an extension. Furthermore, the templates can be overridden and you can make CKAN look totally different if you want to do that. You can find example CKAN instances at ckan.org/instances which were customized using extensions.

My suggestion is to always make customizations in a extension. If something is not possible in an extension, we should try to add an extension point to CKAN so that you can make your customizations in an extension.

I hope that this answers your question and I'm happy to help if you have any further questions.

Best wishes,
Dominik
