CALL FOR PAPERS - SWPM 2010
==========================================================================
The Second International Workshop on Role of Semantic Web in Provenance
Management (SWPM 2010)
http://wiki.knoesis.org/index.php/SWPM-2010
Co-located with ISWC'10, November 7 2010, Shanghai, China

KEY DATES:
Paper Submissions *August 27, 2010*
Workshop Date: November 7, 2010

OBJECTIVES
SWPM'10 follows on from a very successful first edition, co-located with
the International Semantic Web Conference (ISWC) in October, 2009.
The current Knowledge Economy is encouraging organizations and
governments to publish and expose their data, make them accessible to
the public and reusable for new, unanticipated purposes. Initiatives
like the Linked Open Data (LOD) and eScience have created a vast amount
of information that can be leveraged by Semantic Web applications in a
variety of real world scenarios. The importance of managing various
forms of metadata has long been recognized as critical in the Semantic
Web. In this workshop we focus specifically on metadata that describes
the origins of the data, i.e. the provenance of data. Provenance
metadata is essential to correctly interpret the results of a process
execution, to validate data processing tools, to verify the quality of
data, and to associate measures of trust to the data.
At the same time, the scale at which data across different domains (e.g.
biomedical informatics, astronomy, oceanography and etc) is created
along with the rapidly increasing LOD cloud mandates the processing and
analysis of provenance metadata in a scalable way.
The SWPM workshop has two primary, and complementary, objectives:
(1) to explore the role of Semantic Web in addressing some of the
critical challenges facing provenance management and
(2) to explore the role of provenance in real world Semantic Web
applications.
Specifically, the workshop topics include:
1. Efficiently capturing, propagating and publishing provenance
information as data is processed, fragmented and recombined across
multiple applications on a Web scale.
2. Models and vocabularies for provenance management.
3. Tools leveraging the Semantic Web for visualization and browsing of
provenance information.
4. Tools, applications and software frameworks for provenance
exploitation, processing and analysis.

Paper Submissions: August 27, 2010
Notification: September 17, 2010
Camera ready papers due: October 15, 2010
Workshop Date: November 7, 2010, Shanghai International Convention
Center, 2727 Riverside Avenue, Pudong Shanghai, China
TOPICS FOR PAPER SUBMISSION
The workshop will solicit the submission of original research papers
dealing with analytical, theoretical, and practical aspects of
provenance management using Semantic Web.
Topics of interest include, but are not restricted to:
* Representation models for provenance, provenance ontologies
* Methods and tools for capturing provenance information, including
automatic methods based on information extraction techniques and methods
based on user-generated information
* Reasoning with provenance for assessing trustworthiness, reliability,
and quality of data
* Methods and approaches that make use of provenance metadata
* Large scale storage and efficient querying of provenance
* Interoperability and propagation of provenance across applications
* Provenance Web infrastructure for eScience, business, and Web applications
* Role of Semantic Web provenance in scientific data management
* Role of provenance in social networks, social media and Web 2.0
applications
* Tools for visualizing and browsing provenance information
* Applications and case studies of provenance and the Semantic Web
SUBMISSIONS FORMAT
We solicit:
- regular (6 pages) and short papers submissions of original,
unpublished work. Submitted papers are peer-reviewed.
Papers are to be formatted according to the IEEE guidelines:
http://www.ieee.org/web/publications/authors/transjnl/index.html.
- Demo papers. Authors should submite a one page summary describing the
system and some screenshots or online demo for the reviewers to evaluate.
Accepted papers will be published as CEUR Workshop Proceedings and also
made available to attendees on an electronic media (either CD or USB stick).
**Additionally, we are currently negotiating with a major journal in the
Semantic Web area to fast-track the best workshop papers for publication.**
