[okfn-coord] Fwd: FW: [pd-discuss] Public Domain Calculators Meeting, University of Cambridge, 10-11th November 2009

Hi all,

We (qua Communia member) need to decide fairly promptly whether or not
we allocate some of our Communia funding to fly out someone from
Tulane in the US to the public domain calculators meeting in Cambridge
next week. If we want to fly them out, the quicker we act the cheaper
it will be. (So +1/-1s from anyone would be appreciated!)

Cons: it will use up around $1200-1600 of our budget. We will have to
arrange to reimburse them to US bank account. Additional hassle and
paperwork on our end.

Pros: it would be really useful to have them at the workshop. We will
probably not get through our Communia budget (especially at our
current rate) which is several thousand Euros per year - so could be
useful to use it on something good. Longer term there is scope for
cooperating with them on a bid for an international PD calculator
project. Rufus and I spoke to them to day and sounds like what they've
got is quite developed...

As an aside - I think it would be *really* good if we could try and
arrange for as many core OKF people as possible to attend a Communia
meeting next year. It would be great to introduce you all to other
interesting people from projects/orgs across Europe - and this is what
our budget is for! (Just in case this makes a difference to people's
views re: budget..)

Any/all thoughts welcome...

Best,

J.

Hi all,

Just to make sure you have our promo, here is the link -
http://www.durationator.com/video.disabled/DPromo.wmv

We've thought about our schedules and realized that I would be excited
to join your conference, make the connections with you all and share
our knowledge as well as get your input on international laws.
However, we would not be able to afford the flight.  We've looked up
prices and it ranges from $1200-$1400 US dollars.  I'm not sure this
is something you would be able to fund, but if possible we think it
could be very valuable for both of us.  I am flying to Florida this
weekend, so can fly out of New Orleans, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, or
West Palm Beach on Sunday (just New Orleans on Monday), then fly back
into New Orleans after the conference.

If this is something you're willing to do, can you recommend a
reasonable place to stay in the area?

If you cannot, we would absolutely love to organize a speaking session
over skype.  Let us know what's reasonable from your end.

Additionally, as we understand it, you would be working on a Denmark
flowchart at the conference.  We would love to bring our Denmark
flowchart to the meeting and get your input.  Let us know if this is
still the plan and we will plan to bring it, or organize it into our
speaking session.

Best,
Justin
