I agree with Javier view and think that this a great topic for OKfest in Berlin.

What can we do, and encourage others to do ?

In fact this is the session we have started to draft. You can see this session discussion here http://pad.okfn.org/p/Privacy_at_OKFestival_14 (session 5)

What will have a real impact? Subject Access Requests on a massive scale? (something Casper Bowden and I once discussed)

The Open Notice effort is working on - withdrawing consent for the use of my data? Perhaps this is a way to make transparent the rules and stop them being undermined?

I am sure there are many ways to apply rights in the digital age.

We are working on trying to get a Data Privacy Legal Hackathon for My Data together as a fringe event for the OKFest and to hold this event in different locations. (more details to come once we get a sponsor)

This would be a great opportunity to do something about these issues.

So why don’t we do something about it?

In practice it is very unlikely that any attendees to such meeting will be stopped at the border or put in immediate danger. But I agree we should not be complacent or dismissive. A few tech activists linked in one way or another to Wikileaks and other projects cannot travel through the UK. This is no tinfoil hat stuff.

Apologies if it seems the wrong order, but some people need to book time early and we didn’t want to wait for every detail to be fixed before announcing it.
