I also think this is a great idea. The area I 
work in - chemistry/pharma - has a lot of money 
but very limited vision. Some of my contacts are 
saying that they are fed up with closed source, closed data and bad systems.

However they are cautious and it will really help 
to have exemplars from elsewhere. So far Open 
Source generates revenue in ICT but not much 
elsewhere. The major effort in revenue-generating 
Open Source in bioinformatics failed. I think the 
time has come for another shot. We need market 
sectors with (a) money (b) pain (c) courage. Pharma meets (a) and (b).

I also agree about the need for a trusted 
organisation. The companies have to have someone 
they can hold responsible if things go wrong.
