Laura

The Open Knowledge Foundation organises a wide variety of events throughout
the year – including conferences, workshops, local meet-ups, hackathons,
and festivals. These events provide an essential opportunity for our
largely virtual network to meet one another in person and share new
projects and ideas.
Our biggest event, OKFestival, convenes many hundreds of people from around
the world for talks, discussions, and project sprints focused on everything
from government data to the cultural commons, open hardware to data
journalism. It is one of the best known and most widely acclaimed events in
its field – drawing policy makers and practitioners, thought leaders and
change makers from over 50 countries across the world. The 2012 event was
hugely successful and brought together over 1,000 people; we aim for 2,000
and more in 2014.Events Coordinator – OKFestival Role

The Open Knowledge Foundation is looking to recruit a full time Events
Coordinator to support the organisation of OKFestival
2014<http://2014.okfestival.org/>.
They will work closely with the overall Events Coordinator and report to
the Head of the Network Unit. Responsibilities include:

   -

Liaising with a diverse team of organisations, individuals and local
partners to organise and facilitate all aspects of OKFestival – including
sponsorship, fundraising, production, programming, volunteer management,
publicity, ticket sales and reporting. This will be collaborating with
existing and new partners to support OKFestival 2014 and develop
   relationships to support future OKFestivals.
   -

Shaping the tone, atmosphere and reach of the festival to maintain its
reputation as an exciting and inspirational technology event, working with
the Open Knowledge Foundation community to develop the content.
   -

Identifying and supporting leaders within the community to run sessions
at OKFestival, and reaching beyond the Open Knowledge Foundation community
to those in the Open movement generally to engage new audiences and
   translate enthusiasm into action.
   -

All responsibilities are shared with the Events Coordinator, who is
responsible for Events overall at the Open Knowledge Foundation. OKFestival
will be co-created with the Events Coordinator.

Person description

We are looking for a creative, articulate, and enthusiastic individual who
is willing to travel. While familiarity with e-mail, blogs and social media
is desirable, no specific technical knowledge is required; what is
important is being able to learn quickly, converse intelligently and
evangelise convincingly. The ideal candidate should be:

   -

A self-starter – capable of working independently and coordinating with
   colleagues remotely.
   -

Hands on – and ready to undertake a wide variety of different work, from
high level programming and concept design to jumping in to help with
   logistics and administration.
   -

Highly organised – capable of managing their own projects and
initiatives (possibly several at the same time), as well as coordinating
with and chasing up others where relevant.
   -

Comfortable with public speaking, coordinating group activities and
communicating on behalf of the Open Knowledge Foundation through various
public channels (including emails, on the web and at events).
   -

Technically literate – comfortable with using (or learning to use) a
variety of web based platforms and services (e.g. Google Apps, WordPress,
   Dropbox).

Experience in organising large-scale national and international events is
essential, as is experience in fundraising (preferably from a variety of
sources including corporate, philanthropic and public sector). Any
knowledge of open source or community organised events is also a plus.
