-Christian

Hi Christian -

I hope you are well.

Taking into account Denmark's successes in benefiting from opening up
spatial data, I believe it would be beneficial to share your positive
experiences across networks.

Do you know if the bellow mentioned report is available in English? If not,
can OK Denmark help with translation?

Have a nice week-end!

Best,
Denis

 Hi Denis and Flora

How’s your Danish (the language, not your breakfast treat)? The Danish
mapping authority, GST have released their Deloitte report into the value
of opening up their spatial data. See
http://gst.dk/media/gst/2618970/Effekten%20af%20de%20frie%20geografiske%20data%20Deloitte%20Rapport.pdf

There is a summary at
http://gst.dk/nyheder/nyhedsarkiv/2014/maj/effekten-af-frie-geografiske-grunddata/

Below I’ve used Google translate to extract the main points I can at this
stage.

Do you think there would be any interest, from OKFN or your broader
connections, in helping GST in Denmark with funding a full translation into
English?

Another thought would be to get my contact below, Ulla, to come to Ireland
to summarise the report at an OKFN (or other) get together? I can look into
sponsorship if that is of interest.

Best regards

Mick

Hi Ulla

Wow, thanks for sending this through so quickly. My Danish is not so good,
well actually it is awful, so I am relying on Google translate for my
initial impression!

>From what I can understand the socio-economic value of spatial data to
Denmark in 2012 is estimated at 1.6 billion - I presume this is in Euro? In
addition, growth of 5.5% is predicted by Deloitte - is that per annum?

The summary also seems to so suggest, and this is really good, that spatial
data has gone from being a cost factor that was an obstacle to innovation,
to becoming something that:

· Drives development of new products and services

· Accelerated innovation for existing businesses

· Influenced the formation of new companies

In terms of an English translation, I can ask through my connections to see
if this can be done somehow – e.g. the Open Knowledge Foundation might be
interested in either funding or just doing the translation.

If there is any news of such a translation from your side, let me know!

As ever, it is great to hear from you, please stay in touch.

Best regards

Mick

Dear Michael

We have now up loaded the Deloitte report and some general info about the
effects of Open Data - but, alas, it is all in Danish. I will try to find a
budget for translation of at least some of it as soon as possible. There
seem to be quite some interest from other countries :-)

Kind regards
